180 South
Every once in a while a film comes around that seems to have tapped into the zeitgeist of what Arc Magazine is all about. Travel, adventure, art, music – all of these hold an equal stake in the new film from Woolshed Films – 180 South. Retracing the seminal steps of Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard’s 1968 journey to, Patagonia. That adventure forty years ago was the departure point – it was the journey that inspired two things; the birth of the Patagonia brand and more importantly it sparked Chouinard’s interest in conservation. This new flick from the Woolshed crew (Shelter, The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights) retraces that journey with a new generation of surfers, climbers and committed conservationists. Add to the already attractive mix is a killer soundtrack featuring new cuts from some eclectic side projects. James Mercer from The Shins and Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock provide the backbone of the music along with Mason Jennings getting an oar in too.
